Preparing for Surgery
What do I do in the lead up to surgery?
Ensure you have filled in and present the admission booklet to the hospital where you will be undergoing surgery, or that you have filled in the online admission via the hospitals website at least 2 weeks prior to surgery. If you do an online admission, you must take the original consent form (in the booklet) with you on the day of surgery to the hospital. This is given to you on the day of your consultation.
Ensure you have paid all pre-payments at least two weeks prior to surgery; surgeon, anesthetist, assistant and hospital excess (if applicable).
Cease any medications you have been instructed to stop at the appropriate timeframe prior to surgery (if any), if you are unsure, please call the nurse on (02) 4947 8177
Pack your hospital bag, the items you include are a personal choice, but we recommend for overnight stays including:
Comfortable clothing & slippers
Toiletries (toothbrush, hairbrush etc)
Phone charger & headphones
Important documents (ID, insurance information, hospital consent)
Any prescription medications
Weight loss surgery patients:
If your anaesthetist is Dr Eggleton you will need to have made an appointment to see him prior to surgery on (02) 4935 9300
Attend any dietitian appointment/s pre-surgery
Complete Optifast or VLED diet (if applicable)
How do I find details about the day of surgery?
The hospital will phone you the working day prior to your surgery and inform you of what time to be at the hospital, when to start fasting (stop eating or drinking) and any other special instructions. If you have any questions regarding your admission time or fasting you will need to phone the hospital you are going to for your procedure. This can be found on your hospital admission paperwork and procedure summary information given to you from our rooms.
Should I stop my medications prior to surgery?
Instructions regarding your medications around the time of surgery should have been given to you at your consultation. If you are unsure about your instructions or have any concerns, please call our rooms and ask to speak with the nurse on (02) 4947 8177 to discuss your medications.
